The difference between a regular website form and a secure form is that secure forms take in very private information such as social security numbers, credit card numbers, medical history and more — and extra security measures are necessary when taking in this kind of information.
Daniel thinks of building websites similarly to building a house — we add doors, walls and security systems to protect important information. Using secure forms does come with a cost, as it takes time and effort to keep the forms safe and secure, and that’s why it’s important to find a happy medium. Not all forms need to be secure forms, and we’re here to help you determine whether or not you need one.
Unfortunately, as a user, it can be hard to tell whether a form you’re using is secure or not. One way you can be sure is to check for a padlock in the navigation bar where you type in the website URL — a padlock means you have a secure connection to the website. It’s important to make sure that you can trust the companies for which you’re filling out forms. And if you’re not sure, it never hurts to email the company to check before filling out the form. Better safe than sorry!
